Homework: Find a website related to banking. Write a short description, following this structure. (Note: the question 5 is very important).

1. What is the URL (website address)?

I have chosen this website address (URL) related to banking:
This is the website of the European Central Bank (ECB) which is the central bank of the so call “Eurozone”.

2. Who is the site aimed at?

The page is addressed to the general public, in particular to economists and students of economy, to the banks interested in the operations of the ECB, to central banks of the member countries (in our case: Bank of Spain), to job applicants etc.

3. What can they do there?

They can find information, general and specific, about of role and operations of this important institution and they also can get a contact channel.

4. What type of content does it contain?

Website is structure in several sections:
-Historical background
-Description of the main tasks, instruments and the features of the operations
-Current level of the interest rate applied by the ECB.
-Statistical data
-monetary policy strategy
-Press releases

5. Did you find anything surprising/especially interesting?

We know that the ECB is the central bank for Europe’s single currency, the euro and I have found interesting the security features of banknotes to distinguish them from counterfeits without the need of especial equipment to do so.
Euro banknotes are produced using sophisticated printing technology and the ECB recomends that all you to do is to feel, look at and tilt them.
Firtstible, it is important to feel the crisp of the paper running our finger across the front of the banknote to feel that the ink is thicker is some parts.
The second thing we can do is to look the paper against the light to find watermark and
the security thread. Finally we can see the banknote´s hologram.
Another issue that is surprising in the ECB web is the innovative way this page provides information by including videos to complement written information. Video is a good instrument for communication and an effective educational tool.
